In my life, there have been situations when my mind has got diverted towards materialistic and earthly things. I have realized this because of the lack of prayer and attending church during those times. I have lost my mental peace because of not being able to balance my spiritual life and my physical/earthly life. I have faced temptations to keep my mind on materialistic things. The most difficult aspect has been to let go of some materialistic addictions in my life. Materialistic addictions can definitely ruin the spiritual life of any Christian. Whenever I have not controlled myself by indulging in worldly things excessively, my focus on Jesus has become lost.
